News & Updates
Well, I've been a very bad little Fanster (it sounds better than just a "Fan" and more appropriate than say a "Fanny Pack" or something like that) and have failed to update regularly! I heartily apologize and hope nobody sends any vicious rabbits my way. *EEP*
To remedy that, this is where I'll be posting past news worthy stuff, because it's good to know what's been going on, right?
Most recent news is at the top; older stuff towards the bottom.
January 11, 2008: Now on Broadway! Since the Broadway strike has been resolved (yay), Is He Dead? finally opened in December and has had a successful run on Broadway so far. You can read the many glowing reviews and get tickets at their official website: Is He Dead? Hopefully it'll have a nice long run!
November 19, 2007: In light of the Local 1 Broadway Stagehands strike, the cast of Is He Dead? is currently not performing (for now). However, I found this lovely little article on the New York Post's website that shows how Michael is spending his downtime. Check it out! Also, if you read here, it sounds like Michael could use a pair of earplugs at home - heh heh.
In the meantime, everyone will have to wait to see this (and other big-name Broadway shows) until the strike is resolved. Keep checking the various Broadway-related sites for the latest info.
Michael's Birthday!! Oh boy...it's a BIGGIE for Michael - he turned the BIG 5-Oh on September 25th, 2007! Let's all raise a pint in his honour! Of course if you ask me, he doesn't look a day over 40 (go ahead and tell him I said that)! I'm not entirely sure if he's still doing Spamalot, so you may want to hold off on sending Birthday greetings until you either meet him in person somewhere, or until he starts up in his next show, Is He Dead? (see the news page for more on that). Either way, I think people should send him some lovely cards to make him feel loved, but be nice! ^_^
September 19, 2007: Michael's Upcoming Birthday!! Oh boy...here comes a BIGGIE for Michael - he will be turning the BIG 5-Oh on September 25th! Of course if you ask me, he doesn't look a day over 40 (go ahead and tell him I said that)! I'm not entirely sure if he's still doing Spamalot, so you may want to hold off on sending Birthday greetings until you either meet him in person somewhere, or until he starts up in his next show (see below for more on that). Either way, I think people should send him some lovely cards, but be nice! Once I find new info for sending him greetings and letters, I'll update the Fan Mail page. ^_^
Michael's also been a pretty busy boy this year; over the past several months, I've been hearing he was away from Spamalot for a time, then he was back (and even helped celebrate performance #1,000 back in August), and now I'm not entirely sure if he's still playing Patsy, but I do know it might not be for much longer (unless someone says otherwise), as he's heading to a new Broadway show this Fall, in the newly-discovered comedy by Mark Twain, Is He Dead? Michael will be playing Agamemnon Buckner (quite the catchy name, eh?). I've heard of other actors pulling off dual show performances before, but depending on how the new show goes, perhaps he'll still go back to Spamalot at some point. Is He Dead? starts in previews on November 8, 2007, and officially opens on November 29th at the Lyceum Theatre in New York (duh). Ticket information should be available online soon. Good luck with the show, Michael!
And, one last exciting thingy: Michael can also be seen on selected screens starting this September in the film Ira & Abby, which has been making the festival rounds recently and been received well, I hear. A few other actors he's worked with are also featured, including Jennifer Westfeldt (who plays title character Abby), and Donna Murphy. So hey, go see it if you get the chance!
December 8, 2006: See Michael in Follies! From February 8th - 11th, 2007, Michael will be performing as Buddy Plummer in the Encores! concert of Follies at the New York City Center. To learn more about tickets and performances, read here! Many other well-known performers will also be there, so get your tickets now! (Boo hoo, I live too far away.) ;_;
Other News for September 28th, 2006: (As previously posted on the front page.) This is sort of WAY short-notice, but I thought I'd mention that tonight (September 28th) at Joe's Pub, Michael will be appearing in the Broadway actor-performed improv comedy benefit (headed by Spamalot's own very silly Steve Rosen) aptly called Don't Quit Your Night Job! The show begins at 11:30 p.m. and is sure to be a blast if you love spur-of-the-moment sketch and variety shows. To find out more, including clips and photos from past performances, check out their official MySpace page.
News for September 28, 2006: Well hey, I can't believe I failed to point this out sooner, but it was Michael's Birthday on the 25th of this month! D'oh! I know a few people on the Broadway World Forums posted about this, so all was not forgotten. I'm sure even now a belated card would be most appreciated (check the Fan Mail page for the address; he's still playing Patsy in Spamalot, so nothing has changed there). And, in case he sees this: I hope you had a most excellent Birthday, Michael!
News for March 21, 2006 - Help Michael and Co. make History! Join the gang in Shubert Alley on March 22, 2006 for the "World's Largest Coconut Orchestra" event, in an attempt to set a Guinness World Record! (And hey, it's good enough for a Pint-O-Guinness, at the very least!) You can learn more about it here. Good luck to all who participate!
UPDATE: As many of you may know, this record-setting was a success (of course, it would be hard not to set a record I don't believe was ever attempted before.) Congratulations to all! I think I saw a video for this online, and as soon as I can find it, I will post a link in the Multimedia section.
