The proof
this was all for real!
I know you want proof, and I have it!
The following pictures and explanations will justify how this 'little blessing' was no
joke. Remember, I didn't write the show, but hey, I am rather observant, and I'd like to
think others were in the same mindset! And again, this was all planned (or so it seems) by
the Mathnet writers (like it or not), so I'm not pulling at emptiness here! So do read on,
woncha?
Looks like they hit it
off pretty well, doncha think? |
|
It all
began at the 'Mystery Weekend'. In this
picture to the left, you'll see where it really started to become apparent that Miles and
Pat were in it for the long haul: The 'Netters share their true identities with the
remaining guests, and Miles lets her know he's quite impressed that she works for Mathnet
("I love that show, man!"), and one can tell Pat's feeling pretty drawn to the
musician as well. The exchange of smiles here pretty much says it all.
And so they spent the Weekend together... |
|
|
I do wonder if perhaps Miles was also present at George's party (where George and Pat
performed 'Without Math' for the first time), but since they don't show more than the back
of the other attendees' heads, I can't be sure. But I wouldn't be surprised to hear he had
been there with Pat. (Or arrived late for it after a "Gig".) I mean, we do
know they were courting at this point (don't we?), so it would make sense. And overall,
Pat does seem content enough during the next two episodes, which would make me think she
was happy with her social life.

Time passes
(at least a few weeks; a couple more Eps go by before things start to become obvious)...
|
|
Let us jump
ahead a few episodes to 'The Case of the Bermuda Triangle'. (The 'Smart Dummy' and 'Offthe
Record' eps are the ones before this.) This is time enough of course for things to have
really changed for Pat (meaning she'd be experiencing the early symptoms of pregnancy),
and even George starts to notice. Now, Pat is normally unafraid to say what she's
thinking, but she's become downright snippy here. And you can tell by George's reaction to
this that he wonders where it is coming from. This scene is just before Pat leaves for her
'appointment'; they were watching Donawhy's coverage of Queeg's dive. |
George certainly noticed
her moodiness... |
|
|
|
Pat wasn't just late for
her appointment... |
|
As soon as they finish watching Donawhy, George and Pat briefly chat about the outcome of
the dive. Suddenly Pat looks at her watch, then the clock on the wall, and immediately
announces, "Ooh, I'm late for an appointment." This is at 11:00 am. She then
departs the office in a hurry, leaving George to wait for 2 hours until her return. Let's
just say, in this time frame, Pat would have been able to get to her doctor, wait for her
turn (she was late, after all), have some blood taken or whatever, and return to the
office. (Remember, this is New York, things aren't always running on a exact time clock.) |
|
|
And so Pat nonchalantly returns to the office 2 hours later, at 1:00 pm. George is not
looking too pleased (and I have trouble believing he stood there looking at the clock for
2 whole hours), and Pat is aware of this but doesn't seem to care. Luckily, the phone
rings before George has his chance to spout at her, and the 'Netters are summoned to
Trudy's apartment. (Can't help but wonder what he would have said though.)
So they go off and tend to business
as usual, returning with loads of potential crime-solving visual aides. (Maps, anagrams,
etc.) |
|
The 'Netters are perusing the goods when Pat once again gets up, dons sunglasses and
announces, "I'll be back," ala 'Ahh-nold' style. She leaves the office again.
George quips, "Just don't take 2 hours like last time," as she walks out.My theory? She went incognito so when she went to make that
fateful phone call to her doctor for the test results, nobody would recognize her offhand.
She wouldn't dare make this call front of George, after all, so she went to a more private
location.
It does take awhile sometimes to get test results of
any kind, and this was quite some time after her appointment; long enough for her Doc to
confirm her condition.
Again, Pat returns and things continue on normally.
Funny how easily people just pick up where they left off, isn't it?
|
She'd be back, and her
life would be in for a change soon enough. |
|
|
I mean, if I had just found out I was 'with child', and out of wedlock at that, I'd be in
just a wee bit of shock. (Of course, this is modern day, and it really isn't that unusual,
but remember, this was a good 10 years ago.) I personally would have gone home and cried
if I were her! (Yes, even if it were Mr. Hotty Miles' baby, which is nothing to frown
about!) Talk about good composure!
Even though Pat knew she was preggers
from then on, she didn't appear to be worried about it at all. I guess she was happy she'd
finally have something more 'social' in her life. Maybe it just hadn't sunk in yet? Course
she'd still have to tell Miles and all (man)...
So, then the rest of the 'Bermuda
Triangle' ep seems to whiz right on by, and who can't help but notice the way Pat behaves
from them on...things do seem just a bit different if one goes back and watches this ep
again knowing all this. What may not have seemed obvious will stand out now!(Trust me,
you'll see what I mean.) |
|
Pat continued to be rather moody in the last episode*, 'The Piggy Banker' as well. I mean,
yes Emit and Emmy were good friends of hers, but still, she was a great deal emotional
about everything, especially with George. And keep in mind, this ep does take place over a
couple weeks time before the case is solved. You'll also notice Pat returning to Mathnet
H.Q. in the middle of yet another workday...most likely another Doctor appointment. (By
then she'd have very definitely started Prenatal care...so just go with it, guys!)She even made a comment in the final 'Birthday Party' scene
to her friend and neighbor, Emit, "You sure are good with kids." Just a random
comment, or perhaps she was thinking of her own child-to-be in saying that? It appeared
that Emit was a single parent as well, so perhaps this comment came about with intent to
ask for advice later. Or maybe not; just my little hypothesis.
And no doubt it wasn't long after then Pat would
have felt the need to tell everyone about her 'great expectations'.
Well, there you have it...I believe I've proven
beyond a reasonable doubt (sorry, I've been into too much legalese lately) that Pat
Tuesday met and fell in love with Miles Reed and got herself pregnant in the process (by
no real accident, if you ask me). Soon she would be embracing motherhood, and I would hope
married life as well in time.
It would have been interesting to see this all
develop in future episodes, but I guess one has to leave that up to their imagination,
unless someday by some huge miracle the show comes back. (But I wouldn't count on that,
I'm sorry to say. As much as the writers wanted to do more shows, CTW essentially owns
Square One TV and Mathnet and aren't doing anything more with it, plus PBS just doesn't go
for this kinda stuff!) But then there's always FanFic left to
be written, isn't there?**
So hey, why don't y'all gimme some credit for not
only figuring this out, but actually getting the almost-official nod of confirmation too!
(And finally getting this page done, at that!) |
This
is of course not really their baby; it's a pic of an adorable one I found
that I thought looked a lot like both of them...therefore I decided she best represented
their 'love child'. (Yes, I decided they had a little girl...hee hee.) |

*The Mathnet writers were not
aware at the time this was the last episode for the show, so in actuality there would have
been another season. But as for what they would have done is unknown now, since it never
happened.
**I've attempted several times to
write a good FanFic about this and other things, but I keep changing my mind how I want it
and never finish any of them! *SIGH* Help!?!?!? |
